The Jaguar XJ had a long and colourful history. First released in 1968, the XJ, which stood for 'Experimental Jaguar', took the luxury car market by storm, sporting sophisticated leather interiors and power-assisted steering, with some higher range models also offering air-conditioning as an option. The design of this iconic car benefited from the input of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons, making his last personal contribution into the design of one of his company's cars.
The following year, a top of the range Daimler version of Jaguar XJ cars were released, named the Daimler Sovereign; this particular variant being plugged as being the finest Jaguar ever'. Daimler continued this trend throughout the years with various XJ models.
