Mercedes-Benz SLK cars were first introduced in 1996, when the R170 model was released. The introduction of the R170 model marked the first of the hard-top convertibles for Mercedes-Benz. The R170 offered a sporty design and was available in a number of colours. Upon its release, Mercedes-Benz SLK sales were high, marking a successful run for the model up until it was replaced by the R171 model.
In 2004, the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz SLK model was released. The R171 offered a new design and enhanced features, such as heated seats and AMG body styling. In 2007, a new version of the model was released to mark the 10th anniversary of the SLK Class. An updated version of the original R171 model became available in early 2008 and offered a new design and a wide selection of improved features. The R171 was successful, winning several awards before being replaced by the R172 model.
The third generation of Mercedes-Benz SLK cars, the R172, was released in early 2011 and offered a wide range of new features, most notably the 'Magic Sky Control' option. The model is part of the Mercedes-Benz 'BlueEfficiency' range, and continues the roadster concept that first appeared with the R170 model.
The Mercedes-Benz SLK range has been highly successful, and has won several awards. The R171 model was particularly well received, appearing on the 'Car and Driver's Ten Best' list in 2005 and earning the 'Canadian Car of the Year Best New Convertible' award in the same year. The SLK-Class was also a winner of the 'J.D. Power Initial Quality Study' in 2003. There are many second-hand and nearly new Mercedes-Benz SLK deals available.
