The Peugeot 407 followed on from the popular Peugeot 406 model and provided a more streamlined design. The cars went on sale in May 2004, having been shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show the previous year. Peugeot 407 cars were aimed to be a large family car
Chronology
Launched in 2004, the Peugeot 407 was manufactured in Rennes, France. With its streamlined design, large front grille and steeply raked screen pillars, Peugeot 407 cars were originally available as a 4 door saloon. However, a 5 door estate model became available in the autumn of 2004 and a 2 door coupe model was produced in 2006.
The saloon and estate models were given facelifts in 2008, during the summer of which most petrol models were withdrawn from the UK and European markets.
The final model of Peugeot 407 was produced with electric seats, door mirrors that fold when the car is locked, hazard lights which are automatically activated if the driver brakes hard, headlights which are automatically turned on when it becomes dark, and wipers that are automatically activated in the rain. With these features it is not surprising that Peugeot 407 sales were impressive. However, the car was not popular enough and production ceased in 2010. The Peugeot 407 was succeeded by the Peugeot 508 model early in 2011.
Achievements and Benefits
Peugeot 407 cars look good, they are stylish and this style continues in second-hand Peugeot cars. The Peugeot 407 offers advanced suspension and drivers can experience a comfortable drive with soft handling. The car is also very reliable. Whilst it has not won any awards, the 407 was one of the runners up in the 2005 European Car of the Year award. It has also been given a five star rating in the Euro NCAP tests. Compared to similar rival cars, a second-hand Peugeot 407 can offer very good value for money.
