The Partner is officially referred to as a 'leisure activity vehicle' by the French carmaker Peugeot; however, in the United Kingdom this style of vehicle is most often referred to as a van. The Peugeot Partner was introduced to the market in 1997 as a solid competitor to similar small vans manufactured by Ford. This style of van allows users to load and haul cargo that is just too big and bulky to squeeze into a regular sized hatchback, but does not take up any more space than an ordinary car. The Peugeot Partner is mainly aimed at small businesses and private owners with larger families.
Peugeot Partner cars are manufactured by Peugeot, a well-established and highly respected French car company. The Partner proved to be a solid addition to the small van market right from the start, and was given a facelift in 2007. Peugeot Partner sales continue to be strong throughout the UK.
Remaining true to Peugeot's typical design style, the Peugeot Partner features a pleasant, basic interior layout and tasteful trim. The van is available with 600 and 800 kg capacities, and despite a relatively small 1.6 litre diesel engine, is completely capable of carrying its weight and more. Secondhand Peugeot Partners that were manufactured prior to the 2007 face-lift offer much the same capabilities as the updated version, but feature fewer cosmetic accoutrements.
The Peugeot Partner fills its niche as a basic but high quality 'partner' for small businesses and larger families admirably, with its easy to use cockpit and its ample cargo capacity. The build is kept simple to maximise carrying capacity whilst also keeping fuel economy high, and ease of driving and manoeuvrability on the same level as that of a car. The Partner Combi version makes a great alternative to an SUV or a people carrier.
