Porsche Boxster

The Boxster is a mid-engine roadster produced by German car manufacturer, Porsche. The first generation model was released in late 1996. It was the first road vehicle to be produced by Porsche since the Spyder, which was also originally a roadster. It was also the first clean page design from Porsche for 20 years. Porsche Boxster cars are so named from a play on the word 'boxer', a reference to the car's six cylinder water cooled, horizontally opposed engine, and the word 'roadster', referring to the convertible, two seated design of the car.

The first model was fitted with a 2.5L engine and was manufactured in the former Porsche 928 factory in Stuttgart, Germany. Four years later, in 2000, a new model was released which boasted a more powerful 2.7L engine. This model was again upgraded with the release of an improved version in 2003. 2005 was the year, however, that saw Porsche release a new generation of Boxster. A more powerful car than all its predecessors, its design transformations echoed influences from the Carrera GT. Later on, in 2009, the Boxster was given a complete aesthetic upgrade, as well as mechanical alterations, that further improved the performance and power of the car.

The Porsche Boxster sales were significant from the outset, meaning that the Boxster was the biggest selling car for Porsche during the time between its unveiling and the introduction of the Porsche Cayenne, in 2003. The Boxster is also one of Porsche's most frequently awarded models, gaining 'Automobile' magazine's 'All-Star Award' several times, as well as many other similar accolades. Second-hand Porsche Boxster cars are very attainable, allowing drivers who cannot quite afford a brand new Boxster the opportunity to enjoy a piece of motoring bliss at an affordable price.
