The Renault Megane Scenic is the forerunner of the Renault Scenic model, with the name 'Megane' no longer being used. This five door, small family compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), was launched in 1996 sharing the same mechanics as the Renault Megane hatchback.
Chronology
The first generation of Renault Megane Scenic was manufactured between 1996 and 2003. In 1999 a minor restyle took place, with the front of the vehicle being reshaped and a new 16 valve engine being introduced. A new style of rear light featured, as did a storage compartment on the dashboard and rear window on the car's tailgate.
It was at this time that the official name of the car changed to Renault Scenic, dropping the familiar 'Megane' name, although the vehicle retained a small 'Megane' badge on the rear door as a sign of its roots. From this time on the car was developed as a Renault Scenic, which is still in production to this day.
Achievements and Benefits
Renault Megane Scenic sales were so unexpectedly high that even the Renault company was surprised with the popularity of its own creation. It has been reported that 2500 of the cars were being manufactured each day during the peak of its production at the company's Douai plant. It comes as little surprise therefore, that the Renault Megane Scenic was awarded both the 'European Car of the Year' in 1997 and also the 'What Car? Car of the year' award that same year. Renault Megane Scenic cars continue to prove popular and nearly new Renault Megane Scenic offer reliable cars that retain high quality and good drivability at an affordable price.
